Roy S.

Roy is a specialist conference moderator, an experienced speaker and the author of five books. He is the acknowledged European expert on building profitable business relationships through networking and referrals and has spoken at conferences internationally for many of the world’s largest companies. He has worked as a visiting lecturer at Cranfield University’s full-time MBA course.

His early career began in television and radio. Working both regionally and nationally for the BBC, he presented music and interview-based programmes, including the Sony Award winning “In the News” on BBC Radio 4.

Whilst Roy was also involved in production and script writing, his main area of expertise was in live television and he regularly worked alongside other notable presenters including Jeremy Paxman, Eamonn Holmes, Ann Robinson and the late Jill Dando. From 1985-91, he was an anchorman of the early evening news for the BBC in London where he consistently proved his ability to perform under pressure.

Roy also runs a company which helps clients create, maintain, enhance and protect their reputations for commercial and competitive advantage.

With decades of experience working in the conference industry, Roy is regularly called upon to advise clients on ways to improve the effectiveness of their forthcoming events. By helping clients clarify their communication objectives, he provides invaluable help in ensuring that the conference ‘works’. Clients regularly describe his involvement as ‘invaluable’.

Conference Consulting: For a recent global conference for a major corporation, Roy advised the most senior executives and the conference team on the most appropriate ways to convey sensitive and unpalatable messages for the staff, whilst ensuring widespread ‘buy-in’ to fundamental changes that were to be implemented across a particular division.

Presentation Skills Consulting: A conference production company that had worked with a particular client for many years recognized that the speakers for a forthcoming conference were not as skilled as they needed to be. Roy was drafted in to give a presentation on how to give a presentation to the entire marketing team, to help them re-structure their presentations in order to engage with their audience, and convey ‘dry’ information in a more lively and interesting way. Each of the speakers then spent an hour ‘one-on-one’ going through their presentations and making specific improvements. It was reported that their performances on the day were ‘radically improved’ as a result of Roy’s coaching.

Coaching: It can be lonely at the top of an organization, Roy is often consulted as a well-informed outsider to be a ‘sounding board’. Although not someone who markets ‘coaching’ as one of his core services, Roy has built up such a level of trust with senior executives around the world, they often call or email ‘to pick his brains’.

Since leaving the BBC as a presenter and interviewer, Roy has worked repeatedly for many of the world’s largest and most successful companies. Clients keep re-booking him because of his insights and enthusiasm. Even though Roy prides himself as someone who ensures the spotlight shines on the participants, the most common remark he receives from client’s is “I shuddered when I thought what this conference would have been like, if you hadn’t been involved.”
